The Commonwealth Games 2014 are being held in Glasgow from July 23rd to August 3rd and are set to be the largest multi-sport event ever held in Scotland.  With about 4,500 athletes from 71 Commonwealth teams competing across 261 events in 17 different sports there’s plenty of scope for getting your children to engage with the latest date in the summer’s sporting calendar whether it be through the sport itself, the different countries taking part or the pagentry of the occasion…

The Games’ official website invites you to meet Clyde, the official mascot.  As well as various wallpapers available to download, there’s also a variety of colouring pages featuring the thistle who “has one of the most important jobs in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games – he’s the friendly face who’s there to help everyone enjoy events and proudly represent Scotland!”  There’s ten sheets to download that picture the purple-haired plant trying out some of the sports for himself including athletics, squash and weight-lifting.
