Did your shopping list include a box of eggs, a bag of flour and a pint of milk this week? Then you probably know it’s Pancake Day on Tuesday, February 17th! Family members not proficient at flipping yet can head to the printer to join in the culinary celebrations whilst they wait for their tasty treats to be served up…
For “A foolproof batter recipe and plenty of tips on how to make pancakes with flair, whether sweet or savoury” head to BBC Good Food and click on the print icon under the picture for a printer friendly version of the recipe and instructions.
For colouring pages, posters and puzzles themed around Shrove Tuesday’s “day of fun and feasting before the fasting required during 40 days of Lent” click on Activity Village where you’ll also find some craft project suggestions.
My Little 3 and Me’s Emma also has a variety of activities to suggest – “toy cookers and pancakes to make, songs to sing, games to play” – alongside her printable. “What do your little ones like on their pancakes? Of course there’s the traditional lemon and sugar and children love exploring the difference between bitter and sweet. (Lots of opportunity for great facial expressions with that one too, I love a good lemony grimace!) Our printable is a great way to explore and chatter about different foods and what tastes work well together; the children can draw on whatever pancake topping takes their fancy and they may have some very inventive ideas!”
Mrs Pancake unsurprisingly loves Pancake Day! The “home of brilliant educational doodads for teachers, parents and children” includes “A set of picture instructions describing the process of making a pancake” on its site. “The set is given in numbered sequence for straightforward narrative instructions and also as a mixed up sequence for pupils to cut out and put in order.” Making a display? She also includes two poster signs on the theme too.
Happy flipping!
