National Tree Week (November 29 to December 7, 2014), first mounted in 1975, is the UK’s largest tree celebration annually launching the start of the winter tree planting season. Each year, the Tree Council’s member organisations support the initiative by setting up fun, worthwhile and accessible events, inspiring upward of a quarter of a million people to get their hands dirty and together plant around a million trees. Why not use the campaign week as an excuse for your family to find out more about the botanical giants…
On the Tree Council’s website itself you’ll find a downloadable poster for event organisers to use to promote their own National Tree Week events. The Woodland Trust and its children’s and families website Nature Detectives have long been a favourite of our Printables blog posts and they unsurprisingly come into their own when looking for printable resources about trees! Its Tree Activity Pack aims to encourage families to “learn, plant, play and create with imaginative ideas and games” and includes tree party activities and numerous downloads organised into the categories Tree Identification Tools, Outdoor Play, Indoor Play, Make, Art Sheets, Puzzles and Fact Sheets.
Ireland’s Tree Week took place in March and took “The Sound of Trees” as its theme for 2014 with Just Forests providing a poster “linking our love of music to our dependance on wood for our beautiful musical instruments”.
Scottish Natural Heritage provides a Tree ID Competition worksheet on its website as well as a Tree Spotter Sheet, Information and an illustrations of native trees in Scotland and Information and illustrations of native trees Trees for Life as part of its Tree Scramble Game.
