Do you have your haggis, tatties and neeps in your fridge? A nice Scotch whisky ready to decant? And have you been doing your vocal exercises ready for a poetry recital? Then you’re probably going to be enjoying a Burns Night supper on Sunday. Whether you’re using the celebration of the life and poetry of Scottish poet Robert Burns as an excuse for a filling meal and a warming tipple or not, there are plenty of printable resources available to download from the internet to help you mark the occasion…
“Five years after Robert Burns died, a group of his friends got together to remember him and his poetry,” explains Activity Village. “The tradition became established and now, every year on his birthday, 25th January, Scots all round the world celebrate Burns Night with a Burns Supper which follows a format similar to the original dinner (often with much toasting and drinking of whisky!)” The website, that provides parents and teachers with free activities, includes family-friendly ideas for your own Burns Night celebrations such as recipes and printables of the Selkirk Grace and Address to a Haggis, colouring pages, learn how to draw Robert Burns and more.
iChild, “dedicated to your child’s development and education”, also hosts Burns Night Activities for Children including colouring pages, a haggis dot-to-dot, handwriting practice sheets, posters, bookmarks, greeting cards and acrostic poems to inspire the next generation of literary giants.
For some bagpiper inspired crafts activities then visit DLTK’s Crafts for Kids. The templates for its toilet paper roll and paper craft bagpipers are available in both black and white as well as colour in case your children would like to have a go at designing their own tartan colours.
Hosting a get together yourself? Then head to Rooftop Post for a black and white or colour version of its Burns Supper Bunting which features the portrait of the poet and his signature.
Your bottles can get in on the act too and, whether they’re red, rose or white, they can chose to dress up in Happythought’s red, green or blue tartan Free Printable Kilt Bottle Decorations.
Rabbie Burns is, of course, most famous for Auld Lang Syne and no Burns Night Supper would be complete without a rendition – but can you make it past the first verse and chorus? Prepare yourself and spare your guests some mumbling by downloading the words from Ink Factory’s own printables collection.
